Slide 1 :Introduction into the Slide


This is our presentation.


Slide 2: What is Intelligence?


So what is Intelligence? Is it the ability to think abstractly? Or is it simply how well we do in school or with theoretical problems? Well there was Gardners theory.


Slide 3: Intelligence in Gardners eye.


Gardner, who was born on July 11th, 1943, had a theory about intelligence that intelligence is made of different parts.


Slide 4: Linguistic Intelligence.


Linguistic Intelligence – or the ability to speak. Say here or there or even comprehend speaking.


Slide 5: Spatial Intelligence


Spatial Intelligence is to be able to comprehend the properties of spacial items, like permanency or dimension.


Slide 6: Bodily and Kinetics Intelligence


Bodily intelligence I think could be described as being able to move and coordinate your body. The ability to use your body to normal functionality.


Slide 7: Logical-Mathematical Intelligence


Logical-Mathematical Intelligence – or the ability to solve theoretical problems... when I mean that I mean to solve 2+2, to be able to be logical.


Slide 8: Musical Intelligence


Musical Intelligence – The ability to preform music, to sing or to play an instrument.


Slide 9: Intro-personal Intelligence


Intrapersonal Intelligence can be described as where you have the ability to understand your thoughts and to put your emotions and feelings in correct behaviors.


Slide 10: Interpersonal Intelligence


Interpersonal Intelligence can also be described as understanding someone else through interaction and to take cues and tones that they show.




Slide 11: Sternberg's Theory


Sternberg believed of a triarchic theory. Where intelligence is divided into three ways to process information.


Slide 12: Analytical


Analytical – To be able to observe or think directly and deeply about an idea or object. Like analyzing the possibilities for a day's plan. To analyze the materials, laws, and other properties of an object using different experiments or different ways to perceive them. Pick up Paper This paper has lines that are see-able through the back. The lines are blue with a vertical red line down the left margin on both sides.

Creative – To be able to think abstractly as to say. Show abstract paper of (something like the baby) Can you find. Slide 14: Logical


Logical – To be able to think logical, Now if Ashlee pushes Me then what is the logical conclusion your going to think is going to happen. Push Kristin (Slightly) I move. To understand basic logic


Slide 15: Artificial Intelligence


Most AI's or Artificial Intelligence's use Heuristics. The study of rule where a process works. During a Chess match Garry Kasporav attempted to beat a IBM called deep blue. Kasporav lost to the computer. Though I am unsure whether Deep Blue took his World Champion title.


Slide 16: Watson


Have any of you ever seen a AI being? Or competed against one? Let me show you someone. It's name is Watson. (VIDEO) In a total of three days, this AI called Watson went up against the two of the best Jeopardy players in the world. And won, with nearly 72,000 dollars.

Maybe you don't care for those though, one little fun example I have for an AI is Edwin Jarvis. From (Video) So I'm not copyrighting from a major movie Iron Man, here is a little fan movie some one made off Jarvis from Iron man. You can hear Jarvis answering and observe the changes in reaction to the command. Using words and showing Linguistic Intelligence.

This brings us to our next Question.


How is Intelligence measured?


Slide 19: Wechsler Tests


The WAIS-R (adults) and WISC -III (children) shows an intelligence that places the person in a percentile on their strengths and weaknesses.


Slide 20: SAT


Do you know why we have to learn a new word in every class? For the SAT right? Just a show of hands, who took the Pre-SAT earlier this year? Well the SAT is the test that some colleges use to decide whether or not to except you. Because the SAT is used to predict your overall success in College.


Slide 21: GATB


The GATB tests your aptitude in a number of occupations. It gives you 12 different assessments as a whole for 9 aptitudes.

Most tests have some kind of problem.

Like being Biased.

Most tests, as Mr. Barber has told me is directed toward males. What these tests do not account for is the environment, there is always going to be some biased in tests that show aptitude or achievement. We use achievement tests in school.

The Script For Psychology Unit 2 Essential Question Presentation

Kristin: This is our presentation for our assigned Essential Question for Unit 2 : The life Span.
Created by Myself, Ana Ramirez, Alex Garcia, Angelina Cano, and Andrew Reynoso.

Kristin: We were assigned the second Essential Question: What research techniques are used to gather data about human development.
As we know, to study development in humans is to research many aspects of their behavior as they mature through life. Infancy, Childhood, Adolescence, early adulthood, midlife, and the "golden" years.

Alex: Some research techniques include using observation. Longitudinal and Cross sectional vary in where Longitudinal take much time to research and also Cross Sectional is very quick and has a variance of peoples development over all in general.

Alex: So here are some Pro's and Con's of both. *List off the slide, you will see when we present, nothing to big that you have to remember immediately.*

Angelina: There are different and quicker ways to get information. But they may not be Accurate. Since Poll's have no connection or commitment to be accurate. The same thing may apply to a survey but, there is more likely that there will be a interference in the data based on the givers body language or facial reaction to a persons answer to a question. and Naturalistic observation should be random and over a small period of time... other wise that could be considered stalking.

Ana: In using observations for work when it involves one or few persons then they must be regarded under false names. Also you need to get permission from them or their guardian when it comes to long periods of study.

Andrew: Now how can you study infants? They don't really talk, they cant tell you whether they want something or whether they understand. They don't know how to write and they don't know how to sign language... but they can show emotions. When you take away a child's toy... its likely to cry or completely forget about it. This lets researchers know whether the infant has developed some kind of spacial permanency.

Kristin: Now there are some relations to what the neurological development and behavior stages in persons. Using EEG, CAT, PET, MRI, and MEG machines we can learn about how the brain develops physically.

Angelina: To use EEG then you put a cap ontop of the patients head that connects to the machine that will recieve the impulses in the brain and display them on galvanometers, that look display the information similar to that of how they measure quakes in the earth.

Andrew: CAT uses cross sections of 2 images to produce a 3 dimensional image of the brain and disturbances in blood flow within the brain.

Alex: Using Trace substances they can use PET to trace the activity of the brain, of where the glucose would be absorbed by active brain cells

Ana: By using MRI you can measure the brain activity with out trace substances being injected and simply measure the reaction energy that is not canceled out during the MRI's margnetic field.

Kristin: MEG is a machine that measures the faint magnetic field of the brain. This is the most accurate way of measure the brains nerve activity to the smallest millisecond but it is also the most expensive

Kristin: Now you may be asking how the development of the neurological pathways and brain have anything to do with behavior or development as humans as a person. How this is important to study this.

Well there is a correlation: Children and Infants seem to have more ability to learn and react, in Adolescence we are starting to reach more neurological development. Where we react more and also more timely than when we were older. In the elder years our neurological development seems to decline and as a result we would lose some of our senses and our ability to react if they were not developed enough to keep this ability strong through maturity.

Studying these developments can forward the understanding between aging physically and aging mentally. That our physical development is connected to our emotional development
